A Bit About Me-Parthena's Roast

(Edited by Nikki to add picture because Parthena didn't post one!  This was taken during a jewelry making class we took a few months ago.)

1.  Do you have a quilting "style"?

Yeah, it's called beginner. :)

 2.  Do you tend to use certain colors more than others?  Or prints more than solids?

I'm more drawn toward pinks lately. Probably because there is an overabundance of testosterone running wild in my house. I also really love thirties prints but haven't made anything out of them yet. Just collecting.

3.  Are there any colors you strictly avoid?           Not really.

4.  Have there been any blocks that you've made in the past that you particularly enjoyed making?  Any that you hated and never want to do again?

I like blocks with triangles in them but hate making sure there is a point.  Frustrating!

5.  Is there something in your life that you collect or are fond of? (Are you a KSU fan who loves purple??? Do you have lots of cats???  Do you collect owls or antique china or stamps???  Are you addicted to sushi???  Help us get to know some details about you and your taste...)

I love collecting yarn for knitting and crochet, fabric for quilting, and paper for scrapbooking(I still have to start that one).

6.  Are you into art quilts? or do you mostly make quilts with the intention of them being used regularly?

I would like to do both in the future.  I really enjoy seeing art quilts and how they are made so someday, but first to learning the basics.

7.  Do you usually do small projects, such as wall hangings or baby blankets or do you usually make quilts?

I have many baby quilts as well as two queen size quilts in the works. All of them are to be used and not hung up at this point.

8.  If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why? If I could live anywhere it would be on a beach somewhere.

Costa Rica is my first choice right now but have looked around at islands in the Caribbean. Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.

9.  What's your favorite place that you've traveled to before?  I can't just choose  one.  I love Greece, and Bolivia.

10.  If we looked in your closet, what are the two colors we'd see the most?

 Right now, turquoise and fuschia.

11.  In your fabric collection, what groupings of fabric do you have (30's?  Batiks?  Modern stuff?  Certain designers?  Solids?  Asian fabric???, Etc.)

I have a little bit of everything.   30's, solids, moda squares, australian fabric

12.  Which is more important to you?  The look of the fabric or the feel of
 it?

First I look at the fabric and then the feel.

13.  Are there any charities in your life that you're passionate about?
I don't know about charities but Heifer Project is a favorite.

I'm also looking into finding an organization that I like that supports women abroad in education/work opportunities.  Women are always the future!

14.  Besides quilting, are you crafty in other ways?  If so, tell us more...

I enjoy knitting and crocheting.  When I'm in the mood I like to cook.  You can get crafty with food if you have time.

15.  Do you have in mind what you'd like your quilting project to be?  Any ideas on blocks or color schemes?  Will you be making your quilt for someone else? or for yourself?

Since I'm last I have plenty of time to think about it.

Introductions, Please

Hello, fellow bee members.  Now that we're up and running, it'd be great to get to know you all a little better.  A few of us filled out and posted this questionnaire a couple of months ago, but if you didn't have a chance to do it, here you go...  Just cut, paste into a new post and fill out the answers.  You can always start on it and save it as a draft until you're able to finish it.  We'd all like to see some of your favorite projects that you've done and learn a little more about your style.  Here's the survey I wrote:

Quilting Right Along...

So I'm really enjoying getting blocks here and there from you guys.

Our Quilt of Valor blocks look great.  I still have a few to collect, but I'm cool with getting them at the July meeting when my June daisy blocks are due.

I intend to set the QOV blocks on point (12 of them) with the red fabric in between and all around.  Will get a little more creative on borders and I'll use the red for a backing.  Hopefully this will help me make a big dent in the bolt of red fabric that I have.  It's such a LOUD red that it's been hard for me to use it with other stuff we've got.

The extra blocks from our QOV month will go into another quilt.  I typically gather up blocks for a month or two that people make and donate to our cause and then make samplers out of them.  Here's an example of that from the past:

Next month's blocks (mid July to mid August) will be for Andrea!  I'm sure she will make a post soon (hint, hint) to tell us what she has in store for us...

July's Blocks for Nikki

These aren't really due until July's KCMQG meeting, but I thought I'd show you guys what I've collected so far.  I've been playing around with them.  I added borders to a couple and cut them wonkier.  Made them even more fun!

Thanks, everyone for your enthusiasm and creativity!  They're all very unique and I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to.

I'm trying to come up with ideas on how to set these...  I still don't know what my final # of blocks will be because a few of us made more than one block.  I'll use extras on my backing.

Any ideas on what I should do?  I have a bolt of fabric that I'm planning on using with these.  It's  blue/light green.  Should I put them on point?  Sashing?  Hmm....

So many possibilities. :)

Here are a couple of pictures of the fabric that I have an entire bolt of....

Sorry for the picture quality.  Iphone in a poorly lit attic.

sneak peek ...

Quilt of Valor... ( i believe i'll make another! )

Nikki's Block ...
(ok, i had it on my design wall with that stripe Jaimie used,
considered keeping it in for unity, debated using the "Scooby doo"
.. but liked the way the funky flowers on brown
plays with other "flowers" ...
this is my favorite combo, because i really wanted to use Hushabye! ) ...
I had fun playing with the ONE block
... crazy sense of freedom when it's ONE block & not a whole quilt!

In addition, even though it's not for our block exchange
- i want to share this block for another group quilt project
(it's a bit blurry, i was tired and thought it was my eyes ... ;0)
~ but i guess not,
Life has been to crazy to go take and upload another photo ...
my next phone will take amazing pictures!
~ let's just pretend i meant to photograph it blurry
to give it an element of mystery! ~
ta ta for now - Ciao!
toni
~ more later!

June's KCMQG Meeting

This Thursday night is our June meeting for KCMQG!

We will be bringing the blocks to turn in that we made for Quilts of Valor...  I already have 3 blocks (mine, Carla's and Jaime's)...  And I've seen pictures of some more online...

Thanks for being willing to help make a charity quilt!  I have a quilter already lined up for sometime this summer.

On Veteran's Day in November, my group of Quilts of Valor quilting friends intend to award a total of 38 Quilts of Valor to WW II Veterans, former prisoners of war and a holocaust survivor at a local retirement community.  We've been pretty busy trying to get tops ready so that they can get quilted in time.  We don't quite have 38 yet, but I have faith that we'll be able to make our goal.

Thanks so much for helping with this worthy cause!

If you have any suggestions or ideas on how to make our bee run more smoothly or on how to make it more fun, please speak up!

Nikki's Blocks

Hello friends, I am so looking forward to the next meeting of the KCMQG. I finished up Nikki's blocks and thought that I would post some pictures of them.

This was my very first time making virtual bee block, heck, its the first time I had ever made a block for anyone. I was so nervous that it wouldn't right.

I made two blocks, just in case one of them wasn't made quite right.

See you all at the meeting!!

Angela

Hannah's Blocks for Nikki

Here is my Quilts of Valor block:

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, however I didn't square it up because I discovered that my cutting mat must have gotten warped when I moved (womp womp), so all of my cuts were slightly off. Rather than square it up to wrong dimensions and risk making it worse, I decided to just send it off as is. Sorry about that Nikki! If it's in too bad of shape I'll definitely make another block when I'm back from my honeymoon and have gotten myself a new, undamaged mat.

Also, here's a sneak-peak at my block for Nikki's quilt. I'll bring it to the meeting in July - it's the first meeting I can finally make!
