February Blocks for Carla

Blizzard conditions have been perfect for staying in and sewing.  I used the extra time today to work on my project for the Scrappy Bee blocks for February. I"ll be getting everything into packets tomorrow and thought I'd show you some pictures of my X-Block project for February.

First, a picture of my inspiration quilt.......
Last spring, I made this quilt to send to a child living at New Hope Homes in Rwanda. I loved it so much that it was really hard to tell it good bye. Soo.....as the Queen Bee this month, I'd like to ask you to help me recreate this fun quilt but in a little different color scheme.

Here's an example that I made up today showing you my idea......
The lighting for my picture makes the colors  a little washed out, but you get the idea. I'll be giving you the solid charcoal background and white accent strip. I'll also include several strips from my stash to get you started on the scrappy center. The colors I'm wanting are red/ turquoise (robin's egg blue and aqua that is more blue than green)/grey/pink/and white. I'd love for you to use fabrics from your collections. (Please, no batiks, children's prints, or prints that include large portions of other colors...little bits are okay.)Adding solids is fine. The overall look should be more red than pink.
Here's how 4 blocks look together............
I'll ask everyone to make 4 blocks, but not sew them all together like above. This will allow me to mix up the prints throughout the quilt top. For the same reason, when gathering fabrics to make the blocks, it would be fine to make each 7.25" block using the same fabrics.
HINTS:
I used strips from a phone book as a foundation for the scrappy center. The first and last fabrics on the strip will be trimmed down into a triangle later, so you might want to make these pieces at least 2 inches wide.
I made the side charcoal triangles by cutting a 6 inch square in half and then trimming  the block down to 7.25in.

Thanks a bunch for helping me create this quilt.  Hope to see you next Thursday....
It better not snow!

This looks great, and something I have not done before. Looking forward to it.

k. i'm off to play with the concept now - and i sorted through fabric last night - i think i have the perfect 'stuff' to play with! ... Q?
the "strips" aka: foundation pieced(if we choose, with phone book pgs - which by he way i just took to my studio rather than throwing out, just for such a purpose!)
~ ?confirm? thx ~
= the "strip" size: 4 1/2"X 10 1/2" rectangles. ...
= 7 1/2" finished squares.
THE "white" you will be providing = 1" ?.. or did you chose to go larger? ...
Thanks, wanted to confirm in case I overlooked and others had the same Q.
i'm off to make a sample!
ttfn.
